WELDED WIRE MESH FABRIC FOR STIRRUPS REINFORCEMENT

Product:

The mesh for stirrups is a specially designed mesh which is bent with a bending machine into a cage of stirrups for columns, walls, beams and beams foundation.

Specification:

The standard mesh fabric for stirrups complies with BS 4483. The transverse wires Y8mm (the stirrups) and the longitudinal Y5mm (supporting wires) are produced from cold reduced deformed steel wires of high strength according to BS4482.

STANDARD WELDED WIRE MESH FABRIC FOR CONCRETE REINFORCEMENT

a) Mechanical Properties
  • Specified characteristic strength: 460 N/mm²
  • Tensile Strength: min 510 N/mm². In addition either the tensile strength recorded in the tensile test shall be at least 5% greater than the recorded yield strength or alternatively the minimum elongation shall be not less than 12% measured on a gauge length of 5do.
  • Shear strength of the weld: The shearing load required to produce failure of a welded intersection shall be not less than 0.25Afy, where A is the nominal cross-sectional area of the smaller wire at the welded intersection and fy is the characteristic yield stress of the wire (460 N/mm²).

Standardisation

The welded wire mesh for stirrups is produced by transverse and longitudinal wires. The transverse wires for stirrups (Y8mm) are uniformly welded with the longitudinal ones. The main reinforcement of stirrups (Y8mm) are held strongly in position by the longitudinal wires. The typical distances between transverse wires are 100mm or 125mm or 150mm or 200mm.

b) Chemical composition of steel

  • Carbon C: max 0.25%
  • Sulphur S: max 0.060%
  • Phosphorous P: max 0.060%
  • Carbon Equivalent Value Ceq: max 0.42%
  • Where Ceq = C + Mn/6 + (Cr+V+Mo)/5 + (Cu+Ni)/15
All test certificates regarding the quality control of mesh for stirrups can be issued at any time from the laboratory which is situated at Domoplex’s premises.

Notes:

  1. The code of mesh for stirrups constitutes from the type of mesh, the diametre of stirrups and the distance between them. i.e. M100-Y8/125mm.
  2. Mesh fabrics which are noted by ‘Y’ are in stock.
  3. Mesh fabric for stirrups with different widths, lengths, diametres and distances between the stirrups can be produced by Domoplex, after a special order. i.e. Y10/100mm, Y8/100-150-100mm, Y10/100-200-100mm, etc. For more information please contact us through our online request form.
Advantages
  • Uniform and accurate distribution of column’s or beam's stirrups reinforcement.
  • Indirect increase of strength and ductility of support or column.
  • Saving in time, labour costs and materials in tying columns and beams, due to the decrease of reinforcing tying points since all stirrups are now welded and placed in position.
  • Ease in checking and inspection.
  • Avoidance of the possibility of sliding of the column’s stirrups during concrete pouring due to possible poor tying. Stirrups are now firmly welded and secured in position.
  • Accurate placing of stirrups at the intersections of columns and beams (joints).
